about.

"Bedrock Bones" is a series of artwork utilizing humanely-sourced animal remains (primarily bones and skulls), stones/crystals, and other natural materials to create works of art that depict the concept of the existence of beauty in death. I--the artist--have always been drawn to skulls and bones and their mysterious appearance. They are a visual oddity, as they exist beneath a surface we grow accustomed to viewing. And, it is only in death, that the outer surface decomposes to reveal the supporting structure beneath.

That, in and of itself, is a form of art.

Much like someone removing a mask, the revelation of skeleton triggers a macabre appeal, brought about by the curiosity of the unknown and seemingly unnatural (ironic, as bones are often more natural than the exterior that shrouds them).

Nature is art. And, death, albeit an inevitable end that entices fear, is not without its silver linings. If you take a moment to really consider and admire death--the physical process as well as all of its philosophical ideologies--it becomes a little less scary.

It becomes a little more poetic--beautiful.

These decorated skulls and bones are simply my take on these considerations and admirations. Life and death is a cycle.

This artwork is my way of breathing a little bit of life back into the dead.
